How Licensing Works
How Licensing Works
DonCarlos Studio licenses original artwork by DonCarlos for singles, EPs, albums and other music projects.
A license gives you permission to use a selected artwork for an agreed project. DonCarlos keeps ownership and copyright unless we specifically agree to something different.
What does a music license cover?
Every project is different, but a typical license allows the artwork to be used for a specific single, EP or album and the promotion directly connected to that release.
We agree on the use before the project begins so everyone knows what’s included.
What affects the price?
Pricing depends on how the artwork will be used.
A small independent digital release is different from a larger album campaign involving physical releases, advertising, merchandise or other commercial uses.
Tell us what you’re planning and DonCarlos Studio will quote the project accordingly.
Can the artwork be used on merchandise?
Yes, but merchandise isn’t automatically included in a standard music license.
If you want to use the artwork on shirts, posters, products or anything being sold separately from the music release, let us know and we can include those rights in the agreement.
What if the cover needs design work?
DonCarlos Studio can handle that too.
Artist names, release titles, logos and basic cover preparation can be added when needed. If the project requires additional design work, we’ll include it in the quote before anything begins.
Who owns the artwork?
DonCarlos retains ownership and copyright of the original artwork unless we specifically agree otherwise.
The license gives you permission to use the artwork for the project and uses described in the agreement.
Is the artwork exclusive?
That depends on the project.
If exclusivity matters for your release, let us know when you get in touch and we can include that in the conversation.
Found something you want to use?
Send DonCarlos Studio the artwork code, a link to the music, your release date and how you plan to use the artwork.
We’ll get back to you with availability, pricing and the terms for the project.
