Here's my story...
In 2020, I made the leap from graphic designer to full-time artist, driven by the desire to build something that was entirely my own. What started in a spare room quickly moved into a garage, where I poured every ounce of sweat equity into creating a solid inventory of work. It wasn’t easy. Commissions were sporadic and the work wasn’t steady but I learned the ins and outs of running a business. From managing inventory and ordering supplies to promoting my art and designing new pieces.
Over time, I developed five distinct styles that have become the hallmark of my work. Each piece is crafted with the utmost care, using the highest quality materials and offering endless color options. My clients appreciate the boldness and uniqueness of what I create and I take pride in offering something truly special for their homes and offices.
At the heart of my business are the values of discipline, resilience, and creativity. I believe in the power of staying ready. Always prepared to take on the next challenge. I refuse to compromise on the time and care I put into my creative process. Drawing isn’t just a job. It’s a natural extension of who I am. Whether I’m sketching alone or with friends, creating art is something I do automatically, driven by a deep passion for the craft.
One of my proudest accomplishments is the Smiley Face Project, a daily sketchbook exercise that reflects my thoughts and feelings. Seeing people engage with these characters and derive joy from them has been incredibly rewarding. Another milestone was collaborating on “My Hip Hop Story,” a children’s book project that celebrates the four elements of Hip Hop. It was a year-long endeavor that taught me the art of self-publishing and the power of collaboration.
Looking to the future, I envision growing my business to include a larger studio space, hosting events, and eventually opening my own gallery. I want to create a community around my work, where other artists can showcase their talents and where creativity is celebrated. In the long term, I aspire to mentor the next generation of artists, passing on the knowledge and techniques I’ve honed over the years.
My journey has been one of resilience, creativity, and a relentless pursuit of excellence. As I continue to grow and evolve, I remain committed to spreading joy and positivity through my art, inspiring others to pursue their passions and leaving a lasting legacy in the art community.
Peace,
DonCarlos
